A Custom Two-Tone Dock and Dual Boat Lifts for a 38-Foot Fountain
This northwest Cape Coral homeowner keeps two very different boats. One is a 2023 38 foot Fountain with triple 400 horsepower Mercury Verados. The other is a 2022 Sportsman 227 with a single 250 horsepower Yamaha. He wanted both out of the water and ready to run, and a dock that didn’t look like everyone else’s on the canal.
WB Williamson Bros. added an approximately 590 square foot dock built flush with the seawall cap, finished it in two shades of gray WearDeck, and installed a separate IMM lift for each boat.

PRIMARY CHALLENGE
The Client’s Situation
The Fountain and the Sportsman don’t have much in common beyond the canal they share. One is a large stepped hull performance boat with three outboards on the transom. The other is a 22 foot boat with a single engine. A single lift setup wouldn’t suit both, so each boat needed its own.
The owner also asked for a deck that would stand out.
What Made This Project Challenging
Supporting a Stepped Hull
Performance boats like the Fountain have steps molded into the bottom of the hull. The cradle needed bunks that bear on the hull where it is designed to be supported.
Weight at the Stern
With three outboards on the transom, much of the Fountain’s weight sits aft. Cradle length and bunk placement had to account for that so the boat sits properly on the lift.
Two Lifts on One Shoreline
Both lifts and the new dock had to fit along the seawall with room to bring each boat in and out.
Our Dock and Boat Lift Solution
We built the dock addition with 5/4” x 6” WearDeck reinforced polymeric decking, set flush with the seawall cap so the dock and yard sit at the same level. For the custom look the owner wanted, the boards alternate between gray and light gray.
The dock was finished with a single run poly rope safety rail, amber reflectors, a retractable aluminum ladder, and stainless steel hardware.
A High-Speed Lift for the Fountain’s Stepped Hull
The Fountain sits on a new 27,000 lb IMM Super Lift from the high speed series, mounted on four new 10 inch lift piles. The 12’6” cradle uses aluminum step hull bunks, along with stainless steel hardware and maintenance free aluminum pulleys and bearing blocks. The high speed drive shortens the time it takes to raise and lower the boat on every trip.
A 7,000 lb Lift for the Sportsman
The Sportsman 227 has its own 7,000 lb IMM Platinum lift, so both boats can stay out of the water at the same time.
The Finished Result
The owner now has a dock addition level with his yard, a two-tone deck that sets the property apart, and two lifts set up for two very different boats.

Choosing a Lift for a Performance Boat
Owners of performance boats and multi-engine center consoles should look past the weight rating alone:
- Hull shape. Stepped hulls need bunks designed for the steps.
- Where the weight sits. Multiple outboards shift weight aft, which affects cradle length and bunk placement.
- Lift speed. A high speed lift saves time every time you go out.
- A second boat. If you own two, plan both lifts together so the layout works for each.
