Custom Marine Construction for Port Charlotte Canal Properties

Custom marine construction built around your property, your boat, and the way you navigate Port Charlotte waterways.

Port Charlotte has an extensive network of residential canals connecting properties to Charlotte Harbor and the larger regional waterway system. That means a marine project can look very different from one property to the next.

Water depth, canal width, shoreline conditions, existing seawalls, boat access, property layout, and lift requirements all affect how a dock or other marine structure should be planned.

WB Williamson Bros. builds and repairs docks, installs boat lifts, constructs and repairs seawalls, and provides marine contracting services throughout Port Charlotte and Southwest Florida.

CUSTOM BUILT FOR CANAL PROPERTIES

Your Port Charlotte Canal Determines More Than the Dock Length

A Port Charlotte dock has to work with the canal in front of the property.

Canal width, water depth, seawall condition, adjacent docks, available access, vessel dimensions, and lift requirements can all affect the design. An existing structure also needs to be evaluated before deciding whether to repair, redeck, modify, or replace it.

That is especially important in Port Charlotte because the area’s canal network connects residential properties to Charlotte Harbor and the larger regional waterway system. The water may look calm from the property, but the conditions immediately around the dock still determine how the structure should be laid out and supported.

Charlotte County’s own permitting requirements reflect how site-specific these projects can be. Residential dock applications require detailed plans and site information, while residential seawall applications require plans, engineering information, a site plan and survey. Depending on the project, Florida Department of Environmental Protection or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approval may also be required.

A Clear Project Process

How We Approach Marine Construction in Port Charlotte

A successful marine project begins well before the first piling is installed. Our process is built around understanding the site, defining the scope, working through permitting, and keeping the project organized through completion.
Property Consultation

We start by reviewing the property, the existing dock or seawall, the boat, the shoreline type, river or canal access, and what you want the finished project to accomplish.

Once we understand the site, we develop the layout, lift location, materials, walkway length, access approach, and any additional features included in the project.

The project scope, materials, specifications, and selections are reviewed before the project moves into permitting and construction.

Charlotte County has separate residential permitting processes for docks, boat lifts and seawalls. A residential dock application requires signed and sealed plans, a site plan showing property lines and the proposed structure, and potentially approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Boat lift applications require manufacturer engineering plans for new lifts, while county review also considers building requirements, flood loads, natural resources, right-of-way, zoning and setbacks.

Charlotte County has also announced that, effective October 1, 2026, all dock and boat lift applications must include a survey, site plan, or hand-drawn site plan drawn to scale. The updated requirement calls for existing and proposed structures, applicable easements, the relevant waterline, and specific measurements from the shoreline to the proposed structure.

WB Williamson Bros. coordinates the permitting associated with our projects and works through the required approvals before construction begins.

Once the required approvals are in place, our crews mobilize to the property. Work may include demolition, piling installation, framing, decking, boat lift installation, plumbing, electrical, and other project specific components.
At completion, required inspections are addressed and the finished project is reviewed before turnover.

Why Port Charlotte Property Owners Choose WB Williamson Bros.

WB Williamson Bros. has served Southwest Florida since 1996, with four generations of construction experience behind the company. Port Charlotte’s extensive canal network means marine projects can involve different water depths, canal widths, shoreline conditions, existing structures, and access requirements from one property to the next. Our crews plan around those conditions rather than treating every project as the same type of installation.

Does canal width affect dock design?

It can. Water depth, canal width, vessel size, existing seawalls, neighboring structures and the way the boat approaches the dock can all affect the final layout.

Yes. We evaluate the existing pilings, framing, decking, connections and other structural components before recommending the appropriate scope.

Potentially. The condition of the dock, vessel specifications, available water, proposed lift location and structural requirements all need to be considered.
