Docks, Seawalls and Marine Construction in Fort Myers

Custom marine construction built around your property, your boat, and the way you navigate Fort Myers waterways.

Fort Myers has a mix of riverfront properties, residential canals, commercial sites, and properties connected to the Caloosahatchee River. Marine construction here has to account for more than the structure itself. Water conditions, access, existing seawalls, vessel traffic, drainage, site layout, and permitting all affect how a project should be planned.

WB Williamson Bros. has served Southwest Florida since 1996, with marine construction work including docks, boat lifts, seawalls, tiki huts, repairs, and related marine services. Our crews plan the structure and the property around it as one project rather than treating each component separately.

Planning Around the Property

Construction for River and Canal Properties

A dock, seawall, or boat lift is not an isolated structure. Its location, dimensions, access, connection to the shore, and relationship to the existing property all affect the finished project.

That is particularly important in Fort Myers, where properties can have very different marine conditions. A residence along a quieter canal presents different considerations than a property closer to the Caloosahatchee River. The river and surrounding drainage system also play an important role in local water management. The City of Fort Myers specifically identifies the Caloosahatchee River and Billy’s Creek as areas affected by stormwater runoff and drainage conditions.

For a new project or replacement structure, our team reviews the property before construction begins so the design, access, materials, lift location, utilities, and construction sequence make sense together.

From Consultation to Completion

Planning and Building Your Marine Project

A successful project begins well before the first piling is driven. Our process is built around understanding the site, defining the scope, working through permitting, and keeping the project organized through completion.
Property Consultation

We start by reviewing the property, the existing dock or seawall, the boat, the shoreline type, river or canal access, and what you want the finished project to accomplish.

Once we understand the site, we develop the layout, lift location, materials, walkway length, access approach, and any additional features included in the project.

The project scope, materials, specifications, and selections are reviewed before the project moves into permitting and construction.
Jurisdiction is the first thing we establish. Many properties with a Fort Myers mailing address sit in unincorporated Lee County rather than inside city limits, which determines who reviews the project. Because the Caloosahatchee is a navigable waterway, work on open river frontage is also more likely to involve state and federal review than work in an interior canal. Manatee protection and submerged resource requirements can apply to in-water work on portions of the river. WB Williamson Bros. coordinates the permitting associated with our projects and works through the required approvals before construction begins.
Once the required approvals are in place, our crews mobilize to the property. Work may include demolition, piling installation, framing, decking, boat lift installation, plumbing, electrical, and other project specific components.
At completion, required inspections are addressed and the finished project is reviewed before turnover.
Marine Construction Experience

Why Homeowners Choose WB Williamson Bros.

WB Williamson Bros. began serving Southwest Florida in 1996, building on four generations of construction experience. The company started its Marine Construction division around custom docks, seawalls, and tiki huts and has continued expanding its marine capabilities.

Our work is supported by dedicated marine crews, in-house project coordination, and experience working with the materials, equipment, permitting, and construction conditions that come with marine projects.

The goal is straightforward. Plan the project correctly, construct it properly, and leave the property with a structure that functions the way it was intended to.

What To Know Before You Build

Fort Myers FAQs

Can a mangrove shoreline still have a dock?

Potentially, but the shoreline and surrounding conditions need to be evaluated before the project is designed. Mangroves, access, water depth, existing structures, and applicable environmental requirements can all affect what can be built and where it can be located.

Sometimes. The answer depends on the condition of the pilings, framing, decking, connections, and other structural components. A site review is the best way to determine whether repair, redecking, partial replacement, or complete reconstruction makes sense.

It can. The required dock length depends on the intended use, vessel, water depth, shoreline conditions, and the location needed for safe boat access. A property on the Caloosahatchee may have different requirements from a property farther back in a residential canal.

Yes. WB Williamson Bros. offers dock electrical and plumbing-related services as part of marine construction projects.

Yes. Coordinating the structures together can be important because the seawall, dock layout, piling locations, access, and other components can affect one another.

The vessel’s wet weight, beam, draft, lift capacity, dock width, water depth, approach to the dock, and available maneuvering room all become important. Planning those factors before construction helps avoid building a dock that does not work well with the boat it is intended to serve.

Start with a site review and a clear description of what you want the project to accomplish. From there, the scope, design, permitting needs, and construction requirements can be evaluated.
