Specifications, materials, project details and any required selections are finalized before permitting and construction.
Permitting
Cape Coral handles docks and boat lifts through its Marine Improvement permitting process. The City’s current permit center includes separate residential and commercial guidelines for wood and concrete docks, floating docks, boat lifts, piles, and related marine structures. Current residential dock and boat lift guidelines were revised in January 2026.
Construction
With approvals in place, crews mobilize to the property and complete the approved dock and lift work.
Final Inspection
The completed project is reviewed and required inspections are addressed before final turnover.

How do you determine what size boat lift I need?
Can you install a boat lift on an existing dock?
When should an older dock be repaired instead of replaced?
That depends on the condition of the pilings, framing, decking, connections and other structural components. A site evaluation can determine whether targeted repair, redecking, modification, or replacement makes sense.
Can I add electrical or lighting to my dock?
Does the seawall affect dock construction?
It can. The existing seawall may affect the location of dock connections, piling placement, construction access and the sequence of the work.
What size boat lift do I need?
Size to the wet weight of the vessel, including fuel, water, gear, and any hardtop or tower, rather than the dry weight on the spec sheet. Depth at the slip and exposure to current and wake factor in as well.
