Coastal Marine Construction on Fort Myers Beach

Custom marine construction built around your property, your boat, and the way you navigate Fort Myers Beach waterways.

Fort Myers Beach presents a different marine environment from an inland canal community. Properties are influenced by Estero Island, Matanzas Pass, Estero Bay, tidal conditions, boating traffic, and access to the Gulf.

Those conditions can affect everything from dock layout and boat lift placement to seawall construction, storm repairs, and access for construction equipment. The existing structure and the water immediately around the property both need to be considered before work begins.

WB Williamson Bros. builds and repairs docks, installs boat lifts, constructs and repairs seawalls, builds tiki huts, and provides marine service throughout Fort Myers Beach and Southwest Florida.

CUSTOM BUILT FOR COASTAL PROPERTIES

Fort Myers Beach Marine Construction Has to Account for the Water Around It

A coastal marine project can be affected by conditions that are less pronounced on an interior canal.

Tides, water depth, vessel traffic, storm exposure, shoreline type, access, and existing construction can all influence the project. Fort Myers Beach includes active marine areas around Matanzas Pass and Estero Bay, with the Town maintaining navigation and boating information for the surrounding waterways. The Town’s Matanzas Pass Mooring Field, for example, sits between San Carlos Island and Estero Island and accommodates vessels up to 70 feet.

For the property owner, the important question is how those conditions affect the actual site.

An existing seawall may need to be addressed before a dock can be rebuilt. A storm-damaged dock may need more than replacement decking. A boat lift needs to be selected around the actual vessel, available water, and dock configuration.

FROM SITE REVIEW TO FINAL INSPECTION

Our Fort Myers Beach Marine Construction Process

A successful marine project begins well before the first piling is installed. Our process is built around understanding the site, defining the scope, working through permitting, and keeping the project organized through completion.
Property Consultation

We start by reviewing the property, the existing dock or seawall, the boat, the shoreline type, river or canal access, and what you want the finished project to accomplish.

Once we understand the site, we develop the layout, lift location, materials, walkway length, access approach, and any additional features included in the project.

The project scope, materials, specifications, and selections are reviewed before the project moves into permitting and construction.

Fort Myers Beach has a dedicated Dock & Shore application for marine work involving docks, dock and boat lift combinations, boat lifts, seawalls, retaining walls, riprap, pilings, fishing piers, wetland boardwalks, and related structures. The Town’s application requires a scaled site plan showing property lines, setbacks, easements, navigable channel width, existing marine structures, and the proposed work.

Fort Myers Beach also has specific floodplain requirements that can affect repair and improvement projects. Because structures throughout the Town are located in the Special Flood Hazard Area, the FEMA 50% Rule continues to be enforced during plan review. When the applicable repair or improvement threshold is met, the structure may need to comply with current floodplain management requirements. The Town also requires a Repair/Improvement Cost Form for certain projects to determine whether substantial improvement or substantial damage requirements apply.

For property owners rebuilding after storm damage, that determination can be especially important because the permit requirements may be affected by the total scope and value of the proposed work, not simply by the individual repair being considered.

WB Williamson Bros. coordinates the permitting associated with our projects and works through the required approvals before construction begins.

Once the required approvals are in place, our crews mobilize to the property. Work may include demolition, piling installation, framing, decking, boat lift installation, plumbing, electrical, and other project specific components.
At completion, required inspections are addressed and the finished project is reviewed before turnover.

What To Know Before You Build

Fort Myers Beach Marine Construction FAQs

How should a dock be evaluated after storm damage?
Visible damage is only part of the evaluation. Decking, framing, connections, piles, lift components, and other structural elements should all be considered before deciding whether the dock needs repairs or a larger rebuild.
They can. Water depth, tidal changes, navigation channels, vessel traffic, shoreline conditions, and the way a boat approaches the property can all influence the dock and lift configuration. The Town identifies active navigation and boating areas throughout the local waterways.
The condition and extent of the damage need to be evaluated along with the surrounding shoreline and property. The appropriate scope may be a repair, partial replacement, or complete reconstruction.
Potentially. The dock structure, boat specifications, available water, proposed lift location, and structural requirements all need to be evaluated before installation.
Yes. Coordinating the two can help with shoreline work, piling placement, access, dock attachment, and construction sequencing.

They can. The Town has a dedicated Dock & Shore permitting process, and projects may also be affected by floodplain requirements and FEMA’s 50% substantial-improvement or substantial-damage rule.

Yes. Tiki huts can be incorporated into a broader dock or outdoor marine project when the property and applicable requirements allow.
