Seawall Repair & Custom Dock Construction in Cape Coral’s Everest Neighborhood

For over three decades, WB Williamson Bros. has built and repaired docks, seawalls, boat lifts, and waterfront structures throughout Cape Coral, including the Everest neighborhood’s saltwater canal system.

This project took place at Michael and Kelly’s waterfront home in the Everest corridor off Del Prado Boulevard. The property is beautifully situated on a saltwater canal with direct sailboat access to the Caloosahatchee River. From their dock, it is about a two minute boat ride to the river, making the location ideal for both personal boating and waterfront business use.

The Everest area is also a part of SE Cape Coral that we know well. Many of these canal homes were built decades ago, and while the original seawalls and waterfront structures have served these properties for a long time, age, saltwater exposure, boat traffic, and storm conditions eventually take a toll. Updating these systems helps protect the property, improve day to day use on the water, and extend the life of a waterfront home in one of Cape Coral’s most active canal areas.

Michael and Kelly contacted our team for two major needs: seawall repair and a complete custom dock rebuild at their home. Kelly also operates Tiki Bar-ge Adventures, a canal tour business that launches directly from their backyard.

Because of that, this was not a standard residential dock replacement. The finished structure needed to support a working launch point, personal boat storage, guest seating, and multiple vessels with very different lift requirements.

The Client’s Situation

Michael and Kelly’s home sits along a saltwater canal near Everest Parkway in SE Cape Coral. The existing seawall and cap had been in place for years and were beginning to show signs of age.

Because Michael has a construction background, he had already noticed cracking along the seawall cap and wanted a professional inspection to identify the current state of their seawall.

At the same time, the existing dock had reached the end of its useful life. The galvanized hardware was rusting, the deck boards were splintering, and the layout no longer supported how the property was being used.

The dock needed to safely and efficiently accommodate:

  •  A 35 foot pontoon barge used for Tiki Bar-ge Adventures
  • A Jupiter 38 HFS center console
  • A kayak and personal watercraft setup
    Guest seating and staging space
  • Canal tour launch use while still functioning as a private residential dock

Adding to the complexity, the home’s foundation sits only 10 feet from the seawall. That limited the available work area and required careful planning for demolition, staging, equipment access, and construction.

What Our Seawall and Dock Inspection Found

Our team inspected the seawall, cap, dock structure, and site conditions to determine the best repair and rebuild plan. Several key issues stood out.

Corroded Tie Back Rods

The epoxy coating on the seawall’s tie back rods had started to delaminate. Once that coating fails, salt air and moisture can reach the steel underneath.

Over time, the steel begins to rust and expand, which can cause cracking in the surrounding seawall cap. That cracking was one of the most important warning signs on this property.

A Weak Point in the Seawall System

Tie back rods play a critical role in seawall stability. One end is anchored in the concrete deadman behind the wall, while the other is embedded into the seawall cap.

In this case, the majority of the tie back system was still structurally sound, but the rod ends embedded in the cap had deteriorated.

If left unaddressed, those rods could eventually lose anchorage, which can create a much larger structural problem.

Tight Working Conditions Near the Home

With only 10 feet between the home’s foundation and the seawall, there was very little room for staging and equipment.

This made the project more complex than a typical seawall cap replacement or dock rebuild. Every step had to be planned around access, safety, and protection of the existing home.

A Dock Beyond Repair

The existing dock had aged past the point where small repairs would be the right solution.

Rusted galvanized fasteners, worn framing, and splintering pressure treated decking made a full rebuild the better long term option.

For a property supporting both personal vessels and a canal tour business, the new dock needed to be stronger, more functional, and better suited for daily use.

Multi Vessel Dock Design Requirements

A standard single boat dock layout would not work for this property.

The finished dock needed to support three different watercraft types, provide safe guest access, include shaded seating, and create a comfortable launch area for Tiki Bar-ge Adventures.

That required a fully custom dock design built around the actual use of the waterfront property.

Our Cape Coral Seawall Repair Solution

After demolishing the old seawall cap with a pneumatic jackhammer, our team confirmed that most of the existing tie back rods were still structurally sound.

The failure was concentrated at the final section of each rod where it had been embedded into the cap.

Rather than replace the entire tie back system unnecessarily, we removed the corroded rod ends and spliced in new sections using mechanical bar splicing Zap Screwloks.

We then formed and poured a new seawall cap measuring 10 inches thick by 20 inches wide.

The new cap was reinforced with GFRP, or glass fiber reinforced polymer rebar. Unlike traditional steel reinforcement, GFRP is non corrosive, making it a strong choice for saltwater marine environments.

The cap was poured with 5,000 PSI concrete to create a stronger, more durable seawall repair designed to address the actual failure point instead of simply covering the visible cracking.

Our Custom Dock Construction Solution

For the dock rebuild, our team used a 24 foot by 48 foot steel barge, a Link Belt LS-78 crawler crane, and a 3,000 pound drop hammer to drive 75 CCA pressure treated pilings.

Each piling was wrapped in a protective PVC sleeve to help guard against marine borers and extend the service life of the structure.

The dock framing was built with rough cut 2 inch by 8 inch lumber and finished with Weardeck composite decking in Barefoot Grey.

This fiberglass and HDPE composite decking was selected for its durability in Florida sun, salt air, and waterfront conditions. It also avoids many of the common issues associated with aging wood decking, including splintering and excessive surface wear.

All fasteners were upgraded to stainless steel, including 3 inch deck screws and 5/8 inch structural bolts.

Three Boat Lifts Built Around the Property’s Use

Because the property needed to support multiple vessels, we installed three separate IMM Quality boat lift systems, each sized for a specific purpose.

The lift package included:

  • A 1,500 pound swivel and rotating lift for the personal watercraft
  • A 16,000 pound Platinum Series lift
  • A 33,000 pound Super-Lift for the Jupiter 38 HFS center console

This allowed the homeowners to safely store and access multiple vessels from the same custom dock system while supporting both private use and the needs of their canal tour business.

Added Waterfront Features

The finished dock was designed to be more than a place to tie up boats.

It also needed to serve as a guest area, a shaded waterfront gathering space, and a launch point for Tiki Bar-ge Adventures.

To complete the project, we added:

  • A 10 foot by 15 foot thatched tiki hut for shade and seating
  • A 42 inch by 42 inch impact resistant glass floor panel
  • A Reef Ball placed on the canal floor beneath the glass panel to create underwater habitat and visual interest

These features helped turn the dock into a functional waterfront destination while still keeping durability and daily use at the center of the build.

At 2,895 square feet, this was one of the most substantial residential dock projects built in Cape Coral at the time.

The Finished Result

The completed dock now serves as the launch point for Tiki Bar-ge Adventures while also supporting Michael and Kelly’s personal boats and waterfront lifestyle at their home.

The new seawall cap addressed the corrosion issue at the tie back rod ends, the dock was rebuilt with stronger materials and stainless steel hardware, and the three boat lift systems were sized to match the actual vessels being used on the property.

Since completion, the structure has held up through multiple hurricane seasons without issue.

For a saltwater canal property located just minutes from the Caloosahatchee River, that is one of the most important tests of a marine construction project.

Living in the Everest Area? Here’s What to Watch for With Your Seawall and Dock

Many waterfront homes in the Everest neighborhood and surrounding SE Cape Coral canal system have seawalls, caps, docks, and boat lifts that have been exposed to decades of salt air, moisture, boat traffic, storms, and daily use.

In some cases, a seawall may look mostly intact from the surface while important components are beginning to fail below or inside the cap.

That is why it is important to pay attention to early warning signs before they become larger structural concerns.

If you own a waterfront home in the Everest area, SE Cape Coral, or along Southwest Florida’s canal systems, here are a few things worth watching for:

  • Cracking along the seawall cap

  • Soil loss or settling behind the seawall

This project is a good example of why early evaluation matters. Michael noticed cracking in the seawall cap, and that led to a closer look at the tie back rod ends before the issue became a larger failure.

A waterfront setup like this has to be designed around more than the boats alone.

With direct access to the river, the property sees different water traffic, wake activity, and canal conditions than a quieter residential waterway. The dock needed to support a large center console, a pontoon tour boat, personal watercraft, guest access, shaded seating, and regular use in a highly active canal location.
